The first SPM Publications Poetry Book Competition 2014/2015 has now closed

DEADLINE: 31st March 2015

ENTRY FEE: £25 per entry. Entrants may submit up to three collections

PRIZES: Publication by SPM Publications, First Prize: £500, Second Prize: £250 and 3rd Prize of £125. Promotional interviews and author profile in Sentinel Literary Quarterly Magazine and launch reading in London hosted by SPM Publications.

DETAILS: The 1st annual international SPM Publications Poetry Book Competition invites entrants to submit a collection of 20 pages of poems for the chance to win publication by SPM Publications - an imprint of Sentinel Writing & Publishing Company Limited.

Stage 1: A longlist of 10 collections will be announced 30th June 2015. Authors of the 10 collections will be invited to submit a further 20 pages from their collections.

 

Stage 2: A shortlist of 5 collections will be announced in 31st July, 2015 and their authors will then be invited to submit full-length manuscripts.

 

Stage 3: The first, second and third prize winners will be announced on 31st August, 2015 and their authors will then be offered a publishing contract. The poets will be interviewed and a selection of their poems will be featured in Sentinel Literary Quarterly magazine. They will be invited to read at the launch of their books in London in November 2015 and receive cash prizes of £500 (1st prize), £250 (2nd prize) and £125 (3rd prize). The authors will also receive 20 copies of their books each.

 

COMPETITION RULES


• Entry fee for this competition is £25 per entry. You may enter up to 3 different poetry collections.
• All collections entered must be titled and must not have your real name on the manuscript. Please use a pen name you have never used for publication anywhere before. Type your collection’s title and your pen name on every page of your collection.
• None of the poems in the collections submitted in the first stage of the competition may have been previously published. However for the second and third stages, you may include previously published poems as long as they have not appeared in a collection form.
• The initial submission must be no more than 20 pages long (excluding title page) and all 20 pages could be made up of any number of poems of any length. All poems must be typed on a single side of A4 paper. Please always begin a new poem on a new page.
• Copyright remains with the authors but SPM Publications reserves the right to first UK publication of the collection for 12 months from publication. If you need to publish individual poems from the collection elsewhere, all you need to do is ask.
• Collections will not be returned, please DO NOT send your only copy.
• If your collection does not win any of the top prizes and you would like feedback, our Critical Feedback Consultants may offer feedback for a small fee.
• Closing date is 31st March 2015. (Online entries will be accepted until 7th April, 2015. Postal entries must be post-marked by 31st March, 2015)

• The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. If the judges don’t find 3 poetry collections worthy of the prize, we will roll over the prizes and double it in the following year.
