OFF BEAM REVENGE
 
I wanted to get back
at my friend
for a ugly black monkey
drawn on my face
by her the year before.
A piece of paper
saying "kick me"
stuck at her back
satisfied me:
I smiled
and laughed
until
to my horror
she turned and I saw someone else-
not my true target,
though she wore a similar shirt.
Upset about what I'd done
she cried
until I said a brief "sorry"
and ran away
waiting for the revenge
toward my true target
