CHIKA UNIGWE

Dying on a road in Lagos

There was no light
at end of the tunnel
the colour of a dying sun
They said there would be
but they lied

I just lay
on a tarmac burnt
by an angry sun

Sounds
car horns shrieking
high like furious babies

There shall be no peace
to swaddle me in
rocking me on
