NGOZI OBASI AWA

AU REVOIR
!

Once again we fetch faggots
To light a conflagration of chasm
Chaste cold
In the midst of flame
Our sizzling flame
Burnt to smithereens

I know if I call
You will not answer
Your ears plugged with wool
Ooze with ear pus
Facing my face

Should I then write? Oh, no. Your address
Stands disabled divested of
Reception of my merry mails
Flashing: failure delivery

In this conundrum then,
Seventy times seventy turtledoves
Snap smoothly off my dismal fingers
As I muse of fires, extinguished
Desires sated, torched
Fired by your porous purse
Shy of strings, stronghold of flames
