I Am Every African Woman
(for all black sisters)

I appear before you
Black and proud
And watch with satisfaction
The play of emotions on your face.

I walk towards you
Graceful and serene
And with womanly pride
See the swell in your trousers.

I stretch forth my hand
In the rhythm of love
And with a mischievous smile,
Touch your unsteady nerves.

I stand before you
I, woman, African woman
In all my glory displayed
Yet... yet you call me wanton.
