The Valentine Month Special features poems by Lola Shoneyin, Founding Coordinator of Ibadan Arts Renaissance, Nigeria, and
author of Song Of A Riverbird. A truly ironic choice, seeing that even Shoneyin's 'love' poems tend to be hallmarked with textured
cynicism, although when she is not watching, she tends to betray a
fascinating tenderness. Here we have new poems Like A Split Reed At Waterfront and Music-Making, plus Trysexual (first published in Orbis) and You Shall Love Again (first published in So All The Time I Was Sitting On An Egg--Shoneyin's first book of poetry).

There are also the poems by Josef Lesser -- Fragments Of A Letter Washed Ashore -- Eyitemi Egwuenu--Chronicles III, Ngozi Obasi Awa--The Bee Hums Again, Barbara Reiher-Meyers--Valentine's Day At the Laundromat, Kodi Azuonye--Entreaty, Durlabh Singh--Sleep,
Dike Okoro - Cape Town, Ngozi Unigwe - Beauty Is You, Tolulope Ogunlesi -- Lorenzo and Maria, and three poems Substance Of My Dream, Whom Shall I Tell? and Remembering Old Times by Nnamdi Ndu.
