DIKE OKORO

IROKO

Braggart in the tempest
Last presence in the dune
What downed you
To scatter yr songbirds?

You, the arbiter of our forefathers' ways
You whose trunks bow men
And women before yr towering majesty

Sipper of gourd speeches
Intermediary between the ancestors and us
Whatever took yr shadow took into exile
Mouths that sing of its legend.
