DAVID E. HOWERTON

FROM DREAMS WIND AND POPPIES

Upon afternoon waking
I watch branches moving
in a delta breeze
taking an edge from
summer heat.
Vagrant pieces of winds
swirl around our house
keeping me on guard
to not lose a page,
and keep California Poppies
dancing in north meadows.
