Christie Watson
Christie
Watson trained as a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital and worked
for over ten years as a children's nurse before she began writing.
She'd always wanted to write, but it took her many years to find the
courage. She was amazed to be accepted onto the MA in Creative
Writing at UEA, and even more surprised to win the Malcolm Bradbury
Bursary. She feels extremely lucky to be doing a job that she love.
Most of her writing begins with a burning issue, and characters that
come alive in her head and follow her around. Although she is good
at making things up, she is constantly listening to conversations,
watching how people move, any unusual habits. She reads widely,
everything from James Baldwin to Maggie O'Farrell. And she writes
every day, even Christmas.
Tiny Sunbirds Far Away is her debut novel.
