Chinua Achebe vs Poetry
Call for Submissions
Sentinel Poetry (Online) #62, May/June 2008 will be published on the 27th of April 2008 and will feature among other things our look on Chinua Achebe's poetry. Although he is an award-winning poet, there are those who contend that Achebe is not a poet at all, or that his poetry is not all that. Others reckon that he is a fairly good poet but that his poetry has been trampled underfoot by his runaway success with fiction via such novels as Things Fall Apart and Arrow of God.
Do you have any opinions or thoughts on the poetry of Chinua Achebe? We will like to read from you. We want letters, and or essays of up to 5,000 words discussing any aspect of Achebe's poetry, from the poems in his collections through poetry or poetic devices his uses in his fiction.
We would also like to read from you if your contact with Achebe's poetry or novels (especially, Things Fall Apart) has inspired you to write a poem. The poem should not normally exceed 60 lines. If your poem is longer than 60 lines, please approach in writing prior to submitting it.
The deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2007
