Submission Guidelines

You may submit previously unpublished materials* according to these guidelines:

Poems - any theme or style. Up to 6 poems, single-line spaced, up to 40 lines per poem.

Short Stories

1800 to 5000 words, double-spaced.

Interviews, novel excerpts, book/film/art/theatre reviews -  up to 1,500 words, double-spaced.

Essays - up to 6,000 words (including footnotes/references), double-spaced.

Short plays/drama sketches - up to 2000 words, double-spaced.

Note: For all submissions, please include a short bio of no more than 5 lines, and a photograph of yourself in jpeg format.

Simultaneous Submissions

We strongly discourage simultaneous submissions. At SLQ we will endeavour to give you a decision within 8 weeks.

Submissions by e-mail only

- Obviously we cannot return electronically-submitted materials.

- All unused materials will be deleted. The authors will be notified, of course.

- Please note, our spellings will be UK English standard, e.g. Favour not Favor,

Colour and not Color. If you submit materials with US standard we reserve the right and are very likely to alter the spellings of certain words.

Payment - 1 complimentary copy of the magazine, plus possible monetary fee**

Turnaround time: 8 weeks.

*We will not knowingly publish material that has been published elsewhere without reasonable fiat.

**Monetary fee subject to negotiation and cash availability. The first issue of SLQ does not allow us to pay writers. In due course we hope to fund the magazine through adverts, competitions, donations and possible grants. The size of the pot will determine how much we can offer our writers.
