On the Couch

For Bill Clinton, after appearing on Oprah's show.

 

Sleepless on the couch

I look back to the

field of  misdirected passions,

where the heart

wet with unholy kisses

hung outside the terrain

of faith

for an interim facade

 

Today, my conscience sits on the bulb

and I chant a mantra of atonement

I call back my heart

from the trails of shadows

to the reality of sacramental joy

 

Yesterday I was a fluctuation of yearnings

today my name is constance

because-

to impeach the muse

Is to erase memory

to impeach error

Is to foreclose mercy

to impeach mercy

Is to negate love

to impeach love

Is a state of hopelessness…
